Lead buyers

A lead buyer is a buyer's endpoint that receives your leads. It is the leads equivalent of a target. Each lead buyer belongs to one of your buyers and holds a spec that says where to send leads and how to read the reply.

Creating a lead buyer

  1. Open Lead buyers and click New lead buyer.
  2. Pick the Buyer and enter a Name.
  3. Set Timeout (ms), between 500 and 10,000: how long to wait for this buyer to reply.
  4. Set Status to active or paused.
  5. Optionally choose Start from template to prefill the spec. Templates marked "(saved)" are ones your team saved.
  6. Fill in the spec using the Form tab, or switch to JSON to paste a spec and click Apply JSON.
  7. Click Save lead buyer.

The spec

The Form tab has these parts:

  • Endpoints: Ping URL, Post URL and an optional Direct post URL (optional), plus the Body format: JSON, form, or query string.
  • Account values sent with every request (statics): fixed values such as an account ID. Tick secret to hide a value after saving.
  • Auth (header / query / body): credentials the buyer needs.
  • Test switch: for buyers who have a test mode, the field and the values for test and live.
  • Lead fields to buyer fields: map each of your lead fields to the name the buyer expects, with a format such as a date format.
  • Questions (vertical attributes): extra answers the buyer needs, optionally required or limited to a list of allowed answers.
  • Reading the buyer's reply: where to find the status, price and the buyer's reference in the reply. A reply counts as accepted only with a 2xx status, a matching status value and a positive price.

You can save your own spec as a template with Save as template. Secret keys are blanked in the saved template.

Readiness

New and changed lead buyers show needs test. A lead buyer takes no live leads until it passes the console: an accepted test ping and a normal reply to a test post. The Lead buyers list has a Readiness column and a Test button. See Lead test console.

Changing the spec resets readiness.

Putting lead buyers on a campaign

On a leads campaign's page, use the Lead buyers section: click Add lead buyer, pick a lead buyer, set Tier and Weight, tick Enabled, then click Save lead buyers. Lead buyers are tried in tier order. See Ping, post and direct.
